Q1) Did you find the book engaging? Why? No, i did not find the book engaging as it was quite boring and angry. i also have a feeling that i do not want continue to read through the book. Q2) What specific themes did the author emphasize throughout the novel? What do you think he or she is trying to get across to the reader? The author emphasized that Lily has a desire to see her mother.I think author is trying to let us know about that we can treat everyone very well. Q3) Do the characters seem real and believable? Are you able identify with them? To what extent do they remind you of yourself or someone you know? Yes. They seem real and believable. I am able identify with them. There is a character reminds me of an aunt who is very helpful. When someone encounter difficulty, she will always be there to help them. Q4) Did certain parts of the book make you uncomfortable? If so, why did you feel that way? Did this lead to a new understanding or awareness of some aspect of your life you might not have thought about before? Yes, it was because the Black is discriminated against by the Caucasian. This is very unfair for Black. Black is also a human being. We need to treat them fairly. In the book, there have two points to talk about the Black is discriminated against by the Caucasian. One is " Rosaleen lifted her snuff jug, which was filled with black spit, and calmly poured it across the tops of the men's shoes moving her hand in little loops like she was writing her name ---Rosaleen." She got lunge from the men, and she was under arrest. Another one is both Zach and Lily went to watch movie. The men saw Black and caught Zach. Zach got arrest cause May to suicide. These can show that black has been exposed the unfair treatment. No.
Q5) What have you learnt from the book? From the book, i learnt that we must treat everyone fairly because we live in an earth. In the world, we must help and love each other. We cannot discriminated anyone.

Charmainefoo's recount on the secret life of bees
1. Did you find the book engaging? Why? I found the book very engaging. It offers beauty, mystery and resolution all at the same time, which is amazing. While the story is undoubtedly filled with facts on bees and beautiful language, which allows me to learn something, while reading the book, it is also very inspiring though it is fully imagined. I am not a fan of fiction books and this is the first time reading one since primary 3. The book allows me to use a lot of imagination which is why I love reading non-fiction books. This book, although is a novel, it relates the story as though it had really happened and the storyline is very convincing. 2. What specific theme did the author emphasize throughout the novel? What do you think he or she is trying to get across to the reader? I think that the author is emphasizing on the theme ' fairytale'. I think she is trying to put across to us not to be racist, and try to create peace among the religions as there would be some sort of trouble when something occurs during a religion fight. 3. Do the characters seem real and believable? Are you able to identify them? To what extent do they remind you of yourself or someone you know? Yes the characters are real enough. Certain characters reminds me of my family. Did certain parts of this book make you uncomfortable? if so, why did you feel that way? Did this lead to a new understanding or awareness of some aspect in your life you might have thought about before? No. None of the parts made me feel uncomfortable. this made me thihnk that actually, beesare nice creatures if you do not disturb them.
